The Creators Project: Typography Shaped Entirely By Hand

Handmade Type by Tien-Min Liao

The Creators Project is coming to San Francisco this weekend. The concert lottery for Saturday is already over, but the arts events and seminars on Sunday are open to the public and are FREE (at Fort Mason).

One of their projects involves Tien-Min Liao’s Handmade Type, a new alphabet where the letters are shaped by sign language and painted hands.

Aquamarine is March’s Birthstone

Paper & Press Trunk Show

Hi everyone. I hope you’re enjoying the beauty of our Indian summer. We’re excited to showcase two unique new artists at Collage Gallery. One works with typography and letterpress, while the other creates exquisite jewelry out of paper.

Event Details
Come down to 1345 18th Street in San Francisco.
October 1st from 4-6pm
We’ll be having champagne and lots of fun.

Meet the artists…

Introducing Kay Hodges
When I met Kay Hodges, I was so impressed with her letterpress art. Kay has always been attracted to written print, fonts, typography and quotations. She expresses this passion using old vintage wood type letterpress. The pieces are from all over the country, each with its own unique patina.

She create words, names, sayings and personal collages. Each is a one-of-a-kind piece, keeping the beauty of letterpress alive! In addition to showing word groups and framed pieces, She will have thousands of letters, numbers, punctuation and accent blocks.

The best part about hanging out with Kay is that you get to participate in the art. Come sip champagne and create your own personal word poetry. Let the fun begin!

Introducing Begoña Rentero
OK, I couldn’t resist. I know we try to keep it really local at Collage but when I saw this Spanish artist’s work, I couldn’t help myself. Begoña creates amazing jewelry out of special papers, natural fibres and pigments that she dyes manually, making each piece one of a kind. Fluctuating between figurative and abstraction, her most recent designs are inspired by nature and are full of color. Each piece of jewelry is unique and completely handmade.

You really have to see Begoña’s work in person. Her creativity is as inspiring as her work is beautiful.

Come sip champagne and enjoy an afternoon on Potrero Hill.

I hope to see you there!

Introducing Collage Pop Up

August 10th through 21st – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
5 Ross Common in the city of Ross, CA

Introducing Collage Pop Up.

If you’ve been to Collage Gallery recently, you know that we’re overflowing with fabulous new finds. In response, we’ve expanded to a very special location across the bridge in Marin. We’re calling it Collage Pop Up.

We often hear from our fans in Marin that they love Collage Gallery in SF, but can’t make the drive as often as they would like. We recently found an open storefront in Marin and we’ll be moving in for just two weeks. (SF folks, if you haven’t been to the charming city of Ross, you should definetly check it out.)

At Collage, we’re in the business of bringing you the most interesting and unique home decor and gifts. That’s why I’m joining forces with two fabulous designers for this special event: Sylvia Barsky and Maria-Tina Karamanlakis.

Maria-Tina is an amazing goldsmith and jewelry designer who works with fire, multiple metals and precious stones, including diamonds, rubies and emeralds. Her work is inspired by her Greek ancestry, and the ancient Minoan Culture. Maria-Tina is also a 6-time emmy award winning multimedia artist.

Sylvia ran Persimmon Clothing & Accessories in Mill Valley. Sylvia’s father was the designer of the Tea Gardens in Golden Gate Park, and Sylvia has many treasures from his travels. At Collage Pop Up, Sylvia will be featuring rare Canton Ware and Japanese Imari bowls, vintage HEATH plates from the 1960s, a pre-war Japanese opium table, and her fabulous Persian Peacock Tunics and Silks.

We’re getting together and featuring an eclectic blend of treasures with worldwide finds from antiques to modern. We’ll have great jewelry, art, furniture, clothing and decorative accessories & much more (including some items at sale prices).

So, from August 10th to August 21st, please join us at Collage Pop Up in Ross, CA.

We’ll be open from 11am to 6pm, 7 days a week.

The address is 5 Ross Common in the city of Ross, CA in Marin.

We’ll have a special celebration on August 13th from 3-6pm. Come sip champagne and enjoy an afternoon in Marin.

Don’t miss this!

Best,

British Route Sign Trunk Show

WHAT: SheSpoke – A new line of clothing made with Vintage British Transit Route Signs

WHERE: Collage Gallery & Clothing – Potrero Hill @ 1331 & 1345 18th St, SF

WHEN: January 20th – Trunk Show from 6:00-9:00 PM – through February 15th

hollygolightlyclubbing3Recycled fashion bridges Saville Row’s Bespoke tradition and London’s “street” sensibility by incorporating authentic British Route Signs. UK double-decker bus drivers scrolled them while proceeding from destination to destination along their routes. These unique items have been turned into SheSpoke clothing.

Tradition gets a nod through classic menswear fabrics like tweed, houndstooth, denim, crisp cotton, woolen plaids & gabardine. The vibe continues with tailored trench coats, updated blazers & tuxedo shirts. Street style hits the pavement with graphic, text-based sheath dresses & pencil skirts sewn entirely of original route signs laundered for wear-ability and a unique distressed effect.

routesignchairFresh from the success of his home décor line – British Route Sign Designs – DeWayne Lumpkin unveiled prototypes of SheSpoke pieces at New York’s Pier Antique Show & Fashion Alley in November 2010. The first collection of trench coats & messenger bags sold out and the East Coast buzz led to an extensive line of more than 100 individual pieces for the West Coast trunk show of SheSpoke clothing at Collage Gallery & Clothing.

The January event on Potrero Hill will include Vintage British Transit Route Signs for wall hanging, pillows and vintage furniture upholstered with the route signs at Collage Gallery, while SheSpoke Clothing will be presented next-door at Collage Clothing.

hollygolightlyclubbing1The simultaneous installations demonstrates one of Lumpkin’s favorite elements of the new clothing line. “Fashion consistently influences interior design with color palettes & textiles jumping from the runway shows to the showrooms,” he explains. “SheSpoke is an instance of an interior design trend crossing over to the catwalk.”

This is a show not to be missed. We’re happy to report that SheSpoke clothing is available in sizes 2 through 16.

Trunk Show with Liza Sonia on December 17th, 6-9pm

Liza Sonia

For some extra holiday cheer, we’re hosting a trunk show event with one of our favorite jewelry designers, Liza Sonia. Come on down to 1345 18th Street December 17th from 6-9pm, it should be a lot of fun. In addition to her amazing jewelry, we’ll have chocolates, champagne and hot cider.

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Liza has done it all. She’s traveled solo around the world and run an international company, before she found her true passion. “I want to do what I love,” she says. “I want to design pieces that are beautiful and that people like to wear. I want to stretch their idea of what is possible; a design concept that makes them look at things in a new way.”

Liza Sonia’s design philosophy is simple: Start with the best quality materials, listen to its simplest design, then add elements of surprise.

So come meet this fabulous local designer, and enjoy an evening on The Hill. She also makes cuff links and rings for men. You can do your holiday shopping (we still do free gift wrapping).

Hope to see you there,
Delisa
